The Power of Personal Reflection

by Cheryl Brewster

December is the invitation to reflect in  a time of stillness and quiet beauty.IMAG0558

This December has transformed itself into a month of stillness and beauty despite the hustle and bustle of the year…. Perhaps it’s because I’m up at 5:00 am every morning to drive my son to his new job until his pre-arranged car-pooling kicks-in again. I’m sure that’s a big part of it… I’ve enjoyed the extra time… it’s been quite magical. Not usually such a morning person, I have been gifted with so many things, like the play of light that streaks across a dark horizon; the stunning purples and blues behind the starkness of leaveless trees, mixed in with moonlight reflected off a sleepy river… it’s all been so memorable and powerful. In addition, the quiet, reflective time with my son has been such a gift of bonding that we wouldn’t normally have had.

I am very grateful and with winter solstice just around the corner, I’m reminded that we each have the opportunity to reflect, to go inside before the shortest day of the year arrives. The name solstice means ‘sun stands still’ and spiritually, it offers the opportunity to pause and reflect. How else can we measure the effectiveness of what’s really working or not working in our lives without that quiet pause?

Winter Solstice is symbolic of allowing the darker shadow side of our experience to come out; to be acknowledged and transformed as it heals, and we lovingly, kindly, with compassion, tell the truth to ourselves… what do we really want more of in life? What are we willing to let go of in order to embrace the new?

This meditation by author Meg Casey captures so succinctly the hushed beauty of this special time:

December is a holy month. Maybe it is the dark, silky silence that descends so early that speaks to me of reverence. Maybe it is the promise that December holds — that no matter how dark, how cold, how empty it can get, the light is coming back. Something always shifts in me when December arrives — I embrace the darkness, and am eager for the coming solstice when the whole world is still and holds its breath, waiting to be reborn again.

What is seeking to be reborn in you? Time to pause, to reflect and vision in the quiet of your own heart is always a good thing.  May the balance of December be for you, a quiet reflection of stillness and beauty. Happy Winter Solstice!

Take Your Stand – Live the Life You Imagine!

by Cheryl Brewster

Great News! And thanks for all of your support…..
You helped make it happen! I’m pleased to report that this earlier blog post was successful in helping Monica achieve her goal of Crowdfunding for her project.
Thanks to all who helped to spread the word!

Help this mom create her debut EP album by funding the recording of her inspirational rap songs. 5% of your pledge to the Philippines.

Meet  Monica Morong… a woman from Vancouver, BC, Canada who truly epitomizes a “Conscious Changemaker,” someone fearless in Taking Her Stand for what she believes in.  I was privileged to meet Monica last year when I was a guest speaker for  Conscious Divas,  an organization for soulful women living their truth in life and business. Fast forward one year later and this busy mom with three children under the age of six has embraced her mission with a crowdfunding campaign to possibly become the world’s first conscious mom rapper of her kind!

Imagine! 3 kids under six and following her vision…. the sheer organizational ability alone is inspiring and worthy of a Hero’s Award!

But what inspires me most, is that despite many challenges in her life, Monica has still chosen to show up fully and completely expressing her creative talents.  I love that. It’s what “Conscious Changemakers” do…. we show up and say here I am world… here’s my uniqueness, this is my joy, this is what I believe in. Monica is living the life she imagined and more. I love being around people with vision… we all need them… they remind us to keep going, to keep on keeping on no matter what.

As we review the year past and the new year before us, what creativity and joy within you is itching to get out?
What baby steps will you take to find it?
What big steps will you take to express it?
How easy are you willing to let it be?
What struggle/old story are you willing to let go of?

Be inspired… Watch Monica’s video.  With only 4 days left until the crowdfunding campaign ends, you may even find yourself inspired to make a pledge. I know I was.

Get All the Answers you Need with This One Simple Question by Guest Contributor Emma-Louise Elsey

by Cheryl Brewster

Are you having trouble with making a choice or decision? Well, whether it’s something specific or an ongoing issue I want you to know that YOU have ALL the answers you need. To EVERYTHING in your life.

But all too often we literally block ourselves from the answers we need. We get in our own way because we’re afraid. One of the most common fears is a simple fear of uncertainty and the unknown – but it could be a fear of failure, fear of upsetting others (guilt), a fear of what others will think of us, or even a fear of success. All of these fears and more can stop our minds from giving us the answers we need – a simple self-protection mechanism to avoid difficulty and keep us safe. Clever eh?

So, you need answers? Let’s get started!

Here’s Your Question and Simple 3 Step Process to Get All the Answers You Need:

1. Give yourself FULL permission to KNOW the answer and TAKE NO ACTION. In fact you never need to act on it – you can decide later. Take a moment to absorb this fully before you move onto Step 2.

2. Now ask yourself, “If I secretly knew the answer to _______________________, what would it be?”
TIP 1: Remember, you don’t need to act on it. Just answer the question – as if you SECRETLY knew.
TIP 2: What we’re really doing here is asking your intuition – knowledge that comes from your gut, instinct or simple ‘knowing’.

3. Breathe deeply. Let the answer arise. Then, once you have your answer, awesome! Give yourself a pat on the back and for now, just sit with your answer and let it be.

Still no answer? That’s OK – trust and have patience. Give yourself until the end of today or the end of the week. Then just let the answer ARISE from within – imagining it rising from the depths of your true being. Perhaps it’s been hidden away and just needs to feel safe to come out – so give it a little space and time!

Remember: To get around the fear remember that just because you know something doesn’t mean you need to act on it. In fact you can know something and stay exactly where you are. Safe.

You can use this question any time to get the answers you need. Taking action may come later, but first you need to know. And once you know, everything else will follow naturally.

PS: While we did agree that you don’t have to act on it, I have a suggestion. I’d like you to reserve the right to act on it at some point in the future – when you’re ready and you want to! Just a thought…
